To illustrate the equivalent to the human primary horizontal field of view, all photographs are taken using a fixed focal length 50mm lens as required by the Environment Court in New Zealand then stitched together manually to form a seamless panorama of 124 degrees.

Services

For professional engineers, town planners, and landscape architects quality photomontages have fast become a vital tool contributing to the success of architecturally engineered developments. Highly detailed and accurate imagery assists professionals in these respective fields to progress smoothly through planning processes and effectively communicate any potential effects of new development.

Escalating compliance issues in today's highly regulated environment mean developers and relevant groups must be more proactive than ever in managing public perception of their plans.

U6 Photomontages recognises this need and can help provide highly specialized visual representations in an appropriate format specific to local and regional council requirements as well as meeting the rigorous standards required by the Environment Court.

The Process of Creating a Photomontage
Following an initial client brief our team undertakes an on-site visit with the client where viewpoints which best 'represent the viewing audience' are established.

Once photography has been performed, we consult our surveyor to establish the 3D coordinates of each photo location and control points.

All photographs are hand stitched together to create 124° panoramic views that replicate what the human eye perceives and illustrates how the development will appear in the wider context.

A combination of relevant design information is gathered for the U6 team to design, model, then superimpose the proposed development within each scene. Images are then presented as 'before' and 'after' scenes on either A1 or A3 size documents known as 'the publication'.

All imagery is supplied to the client in both electronic digital format and high quality gloss prints at sizes relevant for presentation purposes.
Tools of the trade
Our photographic equipment includes a Canon EOS digital camera employing a high-resolution full-frame sensor.
Presentation
A typical photomontage is presented on an A3 size sheet illustrating the before and after situation accompanied by a photo location map.
Survey
If necessary we use highly accurate Leica GPS survey equipment to establish the 3D coordinates of the photo viewpoints and control points which is essential to the success of any verified photomontage.
Client Testimonials
"I have worked with U6 Photomontages for the past 10+ years. Patrick is a pleasure to work with, always fulfils his part of the project to a high standard, often with very little lead time, and is consistently careful about the precision of his finished work. This is important to me because I give evidence at hearings and/or the Environment Court, and I have to be able to rely on the accuracy of the photomontages. "

Mary Buckland - Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects. (FNZILA) Registered Landscape Architect.

LA4 Landscape Architects have utilised the services of U6 preparing photomontages since 1998. Developments have included marine farms, retirement villages, apartments, telecommunications facilities and regional prisons. Pat has at all times been highly professional and capable in producing high quality photomontages for visual assessment work and presentation to the Environment Court. I would highly recommend him.

Rob Pryor - Director, LA4 Landscape Architects.

"Swan Railley and Associates engaged U6 Photomontages to assist in the presentation of before and after images of a major housing development on a prominent ridge line above Albany commercial centre and stadium. We were impressed with the professional approach and competency of U6 and very pleased with what we believed to be a fair representation of the final built result from various viewpoints within the new town centre and as far away as Massey University campus.

Having achieved our objective to convince the planning commissioners that the impact would not have a detrimental effect on the environment it was tremendously satisfying to compare the predicted images with the actual result a couple of years later and know that we had indeed given a very fair and reasonable representation of the building forms, colour and landscape - not just of our own development but of the random development below our site for which we had no control."
